WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT
I
would like to thank all of you for the support that I
have been shown over the last month of being the
president of the RGMDA. I have had several e-mails and
calls from people offering their help. I sure do need
all of the help I can get!
Elizabeth Moore is bringing a new dimension to the
newsletter, by posting the newsletter on a newsletter
website, (www.RGMDAnewsletter.com),
it will make it quicker to down load.
The
weather for the Scott Martin Memorial ride was great, no
wind to speak of and the temperature was perfect. There
were around 16 people that made the ride this year. We
rode all of the way to the end of San Lorenzo Canyon.
Because there were no wagons this year, we came back to
the rigs to eat a fine variety of goodies rather than
have the pot luck at the end of the canyon. Next year,
if it works out, I would like to go a bit further up the
canyon to where the spring is as there are cotton wood
trees there for all to tie to while we eat. (see
page 7 for pictures)
A summary of the member survey that was sent out last
month is inside the newsletter. There were 86 surveys
sent out and 28 have been returned. If you did not
return a survey it is not too late. From the results of
this survey it appears that the majority of you like to
have more fun shows and trail rides. The show committee
is doing a great job in setting up fun show. I would
like to establish a trail ride committee to get more
trail rides on the calendar. If you are interested in
helping out establishing such a committee let me know.
The 2010 calendar is in process, the show committee has
scheduled a driving clinic and a ride / drive this
month, and details are included in this newsletter. If
you would like to schedule an event, check the calendar
and attempt to avoid conflicts. Elizabeth is maintaining
the calendar. If conflicts are avoided and events are
publicized ahead of time I believe that more people will
participate.
As always, keep the mule
between you and the ground.
Steve

Committee Reports
Newsletter
Liz Moore reported that because of the length of time
required for members with dial up internet service to
download the newsletter, she has established a website:
rgmdanewsletter.com, where members can go to read the
newsletter. The cost of $9.95 per year was approved by
the Board.
Chapters
Donna Monsarrat will serve as Central Chapter
Representative.
Dick Kimberly will serve as Northern Chapter
Representative [this to be confirmed at the up coming
chapter meeting]. Lowell Clark will serve as East
Mountain Chapter Representative with Liz Moore serving
in his stead as necessary.
Show Committee
Colleen Selby reports that a driving clinic is planned
for February 13th at 1:00pm at Dick Hensleigh's place
6655 Coors SW. Dick will be the instructor. Cost:
Members $25, non-members $35, auditors $5. The clinic
will be open to NM Carriage Association members.
Any proceeds will be used to fund show awards for 2010.
A ride/ drive is also planned for February 28 at Kiva RV
Park.
Event Calendar
Steve asked that all chapters/committees be diligent
about getting their planned events onto the calendar as
early as possible to give members a better opportunity
to attend and to avoid conflicting times for events.
Currently planned are:
13 Feb. Driving Clinic at Dick Hensleigh's
28 Feb. Ride/drive at Kiva RV Park
20 or 21 March Bosque Del Apache Ride/Drive with NM
Carriage Association [confirmation pending]
April 30 - May 3 Brad Cameron Clinic, Bernalillo County
Sheriff's Posse Arena [this is not a club sponsored
event but is on the calendar because many members have
participated in the past]
June 3-6 Whittington Center Ride [confirmation pending]
August 21 Valencia Co. Fair Mule and Donkey Show
[confirmation pending but traditionally this weekend]
August 26-29 Whittington Center Ride [confirmation
pending]
Member Surveys
24 completed surveys were returned showing a variety of
interests with no one activity predominating. Of note, a
majority of surveys indicated members liked meetings
with speakers and most approved of raffles or "50/50's"
to increase club funds.
By Laws
Two amendments to the By Laws have been approved by the
Board.
[1] Officers will be limited to no more than 2
consecutive 1 year terms with a 1 year hiatus from the
office required before an individual may run for the
same post again.
[2] Members may vote via e-mail
Liz Moore will complete revisions and after review by
the Board will send an updated
version of the By Laws to the club website.
Horse Council
Horse Council dues in the amount of $30/year were voted
upon and passed by the Board. Richard and Colleen Selby
volunteered to be RGMDA representatives to the Horse
Council.
Club Website
Richard Selby informed us that the fee to "Go Daddy" for
our club website is paid through 2010.
New Business
New Treasurer
Steve pointed out some logistical problems in
transferring the treasurer's office to our new
treasurer, Cindy Larrison, because there is no branch of
Bank of the West in Santa Fe. After discussion among
board members it was determined that the RGMDA account
should be in a bank accessible to any chapter. Bob
Larrison suggested that we move the RGMDA account to
Bank of America. The Treasurer, Cindy Larison; and
President, Steve Randall; will be the only two people
authorized to sign checks The motion was made by Bob,
seconded by Connie and carried unanimously. Steve and
Jody [exiting treasurer] will close the Bank of the West
account and Steve and Cindy will meet to complete
necessary paperwork to move the account to Bank of
America.
Insurance
RGMDA insurance coverage is with Horsemen's United, a
division of Loyd's of London. The premium this year is
$750. Last year's premium was $725 because RGMDA
has less than 200 members. The company no longer offers
that discount. Steve spoke to our company representative
regarding additional coverage and subsequent fees. She
said that if a party asked to be named as co- insured
with RGMDA there would be a $95 fee. If no such request
was made and the part simply asked for proof of
insurance, a copy of our insurance would suffice and
there is no additional fee.
She reiterated that all members must sign a "hold
harmless" waiver when renewing yearly membership and any
non members must sign a waiver prior to participation
in any club sponsored event. Anyone hosting an event is
responsible for getting waivers signed as
appropriate. Individuals who have not or will not sign a
waiver may not participate. Waiver requirements are to
be strictly enforced. Any insurance questions may be
posed to Steve and he will speak with our insurance
representative.
Non Profit Status
Our non profit corporate report along with the fee of
$10 is due in Santa Fe. Steve and Connie will sign the
form and mail it along with a check for $10.
Announcements
Bob Larrison is looking into moving the Whittington
Center Ride to the South side of the Center. He says it
is quieter and may serve us better.
Respectfully submitted,
Connie Rossignol, secretary
