WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT
Here it is, another month gone by, now if the
weather would warm up a bit, it is still below
freezing in the morning here at our place. Soon we
will be complaining that it's too hot and wishing that
it would cool off!
Several members have asked to be provided with a
RGMDA membership list, so, the subject of providing
a list to members was brought up at the board
meeting because past policy has been that the list
not be published. The board has decided to provide
the list to paid up members who desire it. Names
will be eliminated if so desired by a member.
See more information.
So far this year we have
56 paid up member ships, four of which are corporate
members. These members have their business cards
published in the newsletter every month. It is
important the we support these businesses, and when
we do patronize them be sure and mention that you
saw their card in the newsletter.
If you have not renewed you membership for 2010,
please do it now as this is the last newsletter that
you will receive if you do not renew.
RGMDA patches are now available, see your unit chair
to see one and place an order.
The next board meeting is May 21st at the
Copper Canyon Restaurant at 5400 Gibson in
Albuquerque. The meeting will start at 6:30, the
room is available at 5:30, so you can eat before the
meeting starts
I hope to see you all at one of the RGMDA events or
meetings this month.
As always, keep the mule
between you and the ground.
Steve

shortened and that it will not be open to the
public on Mondays and Tuesdays. However, we are
told that livestock activities will proceed on
those days. This should not affect our show
since it has historically been on Thursday and
Friday.

Show at Torrence Co. Fairgrounds
Gayle Clark reported that a show is planned
jointly with NM Carriage Association and in
conjunction with the Torrence County Old Timers'
celebration. The event starts on July 31st with
a parade, barbeque and dance followed on August
1st by the show. This will be a "fun" show with
classes patterned after the Rio Abajo Days
show previously held in Valencia Co. Cost for
members of RGMDA or NM Carriage Assn. will be
$25 to show all day, one rider one animal.
Additional animals may be added by the same
rider for $15. Non members will be charged $30
and $20 respectively. All youth age 12 and under
are free. Steve Randall will speak to Pete
Hughes about being a judge for this event.
Limited camping will be available on site but
there are no pens for animals. If you
are willing to help with this show, contact
Gayle at 384-1000.
Members' Roster
Requests have been made to publish a roster of
members to facilitate better communication.
After discussion, Dick Kimberly moved that a
roster be made available to members only, with
the stipulation that it is to be used only for
communication between members and not for any
commercial purpose whatsoever public or private.
Penalty is to be incurred for violation of same.
The roster will be made available in late April
and any member who does not want his/her name
included should notify the President by the 3rd
week in April. Bob Larison seconded and the
motion carried.
Club Directory of Officers in Hoofprints
Magazine
A list of club officers may be published in
Hoofprints for $20. After discussion it was
determined that this may be an advantage to the
club. Lowell Clark so moved, Connie Rossignol
seconded, the motion carried.
New Mexico Nicker
New Mexico Nicker is an online newsletter that
will publish upcoming events at no charge. After
discussion it was determined that this was
acceptable with the addition that "many events
are members only" be included to avoid
complications such as Bob Larison has incurred
at Whittington Center. Dick Kimberly so moved,
Bob Larison seconded and the motion carried.
Establishment of a Trail Committee
After considerable review and discussion it was
determined that individual chapters continue to
plan rides/drives as they have in the past as
this seems to be working well. It was suggested
that chapters make an effort to plan in advance
notify the general membership so that others may
attend. It was also suggested that we call other
members when informal rides are planned among
ourselves. A members roster should help in this
regard.
Announcements
Bob Larison had been approached by a biologist
working on the NM Horse Project regarding a
possible collaboration with the club. He will
attend a meeting on April 17 and report back to
the board.
Dick Kimberly has been contacted by a Forest
Service education tech regarding an educational
project on the Old Spanish Trail. He will
explore how RGMDA may participate and to what
benefit to the project and possibly the club.
Richard Selby was contacted by Susan Jenson of
California who is working on a documentary film
on use of mules on the Old Spanish Trail and
will keep us abreast of developments in that
project.
Connie Rossignol was contacted by David
Gonzales regarding participation in events
planned at Traditions on I-25. The board had
liability concerns and felt this was not an
appropriate venue.
Connie Rossignol sent a get well card to Dick
Hensleigh, a long time supporter of RGMDA, on
behalf of the club as he has been hospitalized
for an undisclosed serious illness.
The next RGMDA Board meeting will be May 21,
2010 , 6:30pm Copper Canyon Restaurant, Gibson
Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM
There being no further business, the meeting was
adjourned.
Connie Rossignol, secretary

RGMDA CENTRAL
CHAPTER MEETING 3-9-10
Meeting called to order at 7:15 p.m. by Connie
Rossignol
Minutes of last meeting and Treasurer’s Report were
approved as printed in newsletter.
Bosque del Apache ride/drive is slated for March 20,
2010 - ride out at 11:00 a.m. Potluck to follow.
Meet in field just north of visitor’s center.
Connie reminded all of the Brad Cameron Clinic.
The ride/drive on March 7 at the Kiva RV Park was
well attended. There was no charge, but donations
were taken for the Wilkinson’s as they do have costs
involved with letting us use their park.
The Show Committee announced that there is a fun
show planned at the Kiva RV Park on Saturday, June
5.
This month’s board meeting is scheduled for March
26, 6:30 p.m. at Copper Canyon Restaurant in
Albuquerque. All members are welcome and encouraged
to attend.
Steve & Mary Randall gave a presentation of their
trip to Big Bend State Park in Texas with their
mules in January.
Meeting was well attended with over 20 people.
Respectfully submitted, Kim Fay

RGMDA
EAST MTN CHAPTER MEETING, 3-2-10.
Members present: Deb and Alan Platt, Anna
Coffer, Linda Threet, Bill and Sanny Crawford,
Lowell and Gayle Clark, Jerry and Vicki Badura.
Meeting called to order by Lowell Clark at 6:50 pm.
Last month’s treasury was $3099.00. Reminder that
membership renewals are due, please send yours in if
you haven’t already.
Old Business: The club made $385 dollars at the
clinic held at Dick Hensleigh’s. Deb Platt reported
that five east mountain chapter members attended.
There was a big turnout, ranging from mini’s to
drafts. Dick gave a great talk, and he’s a ‘wealth
of information’. He gave tips to everyone on how to
improve their driving skills. Alan Platt drove his
Shire cross Guinness for the first time and he did
great!
New Business: Deb Platt motioned that we put an
end to ‘mud season’! We’ve had about three feet of
snow in the East Mtns over the winter months, and
now that it’s melting we’re swimming in mud.
Kiva
ride coming up this weekend, Rocky Mtn horse expo
later this month, Draft horse auction in AZ this
weekend. Ride/drive at Anna’s in Moriarty April 17th.
See calendar in newsletter for full details.
Gayle and some others went to the Torrance County to
find out about having a show. Estancia would like
to have the show in conjunction with Old Timer’s
Day, in August. The date would be Sunday August 1st.
Concessions will be held by local 4-H, show will be
set up like Rio Abajo Days, and will have pay-back.
A friend of Gayle’s from Denver will be the
announcer. We need to come up with a name for the
show – send suggestions to Gayle. Also need to
consider contingency plans if it’s too wet, as this
will be during monsoon season. Robert and Nelda
Auge have already volunteered to help with classes.
We also need to work on getting sponsors. Lowell
and Sam will help out and drive a wagon for sponsors
to ride in during the opening for the rodeo. We
could do something similar for our sponsors.
Lorrie Schmeck is working on putting together a
judged driving show, to be held in August, at the
Valencia County Fairgrounds. There would be
different classes for all sizes of equines,
horses/donkeys/mules would be welcome.
Anna Coffer volunteered to do call reminders before
meetings. Liz or Steve need to email a current
chapter roster to Anna.
Meeting adjourned at 7:25 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Vicki Badura
